Blue Bird Delivers North America's First V2G-Capable Electric School Bus

Blue Bird Corp., an independent designer and manufacturer of school buses, has delivered the first operational DC fast-charge vehicle-to-grid (V2G)-capable school bus in North America, utilizing technology from Nuvve Holding Corp. Nuvve’s V2G platform allows the school bus batteries to store energy, including renewable energy generated from sources like wind and solar, when the grid doesn’t have immediate need for it. This allows fleets to sell stored energy from the school bus batteries to the grid when demand calls for it. The Nuvve V2G system can also be used to supply energy back to the school and intelligently charge the buses during non-peak hours to reduce peak-consumption energy costs.

Interested in electrifying your school bus fleet?  Contact Tony if you'd like Blue Bird to bring their new EV bus to your school district.

Transportation & Climate Initiative Program Updates

On March 1, state leaders from the Transportation & Climate (TCI) Initiative shared updates on the TCI-P.  The TCI-P is a regional program, composed of several components, starting with a binding cap on pollution from gasoline and diesel fuel used for transportation. The Model Rule is the template each state will use to establish regulations that will hold fuel suppliers accountable for the pollution created by the fuel they sell. The recording of the webinar along with FAQ, updated resources and Draft Model Rule information can be found here.

EP-ACT Fact of the Month: The average US household spends 3.27% of its income on vehicle fuel in 2018

Using annual vehicle miles of travel, fuel price and vehicle fuel efficiency, researchers at Argonne National Laboratory estimated the share of household income that was spent on vehicle fuel. The study concluded that vehicle fuel efficiency was a major factor in transportation affordability, and as a result, increased adoption of fuel-efficient vehicles, especially among low-income households, could have a large impact on improving affordability.
